Caterpillar just announced the 2017 product updates for Cat® M Series medium wheel loaders. Customers demand optimum machine performance, and Caterpillar delivers. By quickly bringing new features to market, machine designs can be refined at a faster rate than conventional machine-development cycles. The latest updates include new Cat Connect Technologies, operator comfort and safety improvements, and features that cut operating costs.
Cat Connect Technology
The Cat Production Measurement system has expanded to include the Advanced Productivity Application, an optional web-based tool available through VisionLink®. It allows owners to better develop future cost and profitability estimates based on key performance indicators such as production history. Customers will also receive a customizable “dashboard” to visualize and analyze their work output.
Operator Comfort and Safety
The new deluxe seat option includes leather headrests and inserts, heated and ventilated seat bottoms, and back cushions with lumbar support. Caterpillar dealers also offer an optional seat cover that’s breathable, removable, and washable. Jobsite safety is one of Caterpillar’s highest priorities, so additional Egress Safety Lighting is now available. It provides a dedicated LED light focused on the cab access ladder. Operators can also add an optional fire extinguisher mount.
Reducing Operator Costs
The 966M XE and 972M XE models continue to lead the industry in fuel efficiency with a 25-35% advantage over conventional powershift machines. The new XE Economy Mode 2.0 provides more improvements, increasing fuel efficiency by an average of 6%. The reductions in fuel consumption are achieved through a unique power management strategy that lowers the maximum engine RPM based on performance needs.
