Kyocera | Hawthorne Cat Customer Spotlight

In September 2011, San Diego was hit by a widespread blackout that left most of Southern California without power for hours. Kyocera America, Inc. a mobile device electronics company, experienced first-hand how a massive power outage can affect a mission critical business. According to the article, "Black Start" in RunReady Magazine, a power failure can be extremely detrimental if the furnaces lose power, forcing them to cool off and shut down.

Throughout the power outage, Hawthorne Power Systems was on call and ready to help Kyocera. Hawthorne quickly provided them with a rental generator to keep power flowing and saved Kyocera from what could have been a costly disaster.

As a result of the power outage, Kyocera replaced their outdated gas generators with a new cogeneration plant. They installed two new Cat gas generators as well as a Cat 3512B diesel generator to ensure long-term standby power and improve overall operating efficiency.
