Hawthorne Power Systems Recognized by Bechtel for Outstanding Performance on Nuclear, Security and Environmental Projects

Hawthorne Honored for its Commitment to Excellence and Quality

San Diego, CA — Hawthorne Power Systems, the authorized sales, rental, parts and service dealer for Cat electric power, back-up power and stand-by power equipment, and industrial engines in San Diego, Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Region, was recognized for outstanding work on projects by Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security & Environmental global business unit at the Bechtel Subcontractor and Supplier Recognition awards. The awards recognize subcontractors and suppliers who supported Bechtel‘s work in nuclear power, environmental clean-up, defense, and nuclear security and operations projects during 2014.

“Our vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers are integral team members on our projects and they do amazing, innovative work in extremely difficult places,” said Craig Albert, president of the Bechtel Nuclear, Security & Environmental business unit. “These award recipients not only met our high standards for quality and performance, but also went above and beyond for mission delivery.”

According to Joe Corbaci, Hawthorne Power Systems Product Support General Manager, “Being selected as the 2014 Small Contractor of the Year by Bechtel Corporation is quite an honor and reflects our commitment to provide truly exceptional service.”

Hawthorne was contracted by Kwajalein Range Services, the Bechtel-led company that performs logistics and mission support for the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site on remote Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. Work performed included installation of a new C280-16 diesel generator set and overhauls to three 3616 generator sets, converting them to a fully electronic C280-16 product platform. The power plant stability and performance is critical to the residents of the island and, more importantly, to the mission launches and radar functions.

Companies considered for this award were evaluated on multiple factors, including overall performance, the ability to deliver quality services/supplies on time, the ability to work collaboratively to meet milestones, and meeting or exceeding project expectations in aspects of safety, construction performance, technical expertise, and environmental compliance. Nominations were reviewed and approved by Bechtel procurement managers and project managers. Final recommendations were approved by Bechtel senior leadership.
